About Ribbit Royale
Ribbit Royale is a free online shooter where every player is a frog knight. You snipe, slash, grapple and rocket-jump across island maps against up to fifteen other frogs, straight from your web browser. There is nothing to download or install.
What kind of game is it?
Ribbit Royale is a fast arena shooter with a battle royale mode. Each frog carries a long sword, a main gun and a movement tool, so a fight can turn from a long-range sniper duel into a sword clash in a couple of seconds. Movement matters as much as aim: frogs can dash, swing on a grappling hook, surf down roofs and rocks and launch themselves with rockets, and they keep their momentum when they land. Good players chain these together to cross a whole map in a few moves.
Matches are short. A deathmatch round lasts a few minutes, and a battle royale ends as soon as one frog is left standing, so it is easy to play one quick game on a break or settle in for an evening with friends.
Who makes it?
Ribbit Royale is made by a small independent developer. The game world, maps, frog knight models and outfits are built for this game, and the game is updated often, usually several times a week. New maps, skins, modes and balance changes are listed in the "What's new" list on the main menu.
How the game works behind the scenes
The game runs in the browser with WebGL, using the Three.js 3D library. A dedicated game server written in C++ runs every match, checks every shot and movement, and sends the result to all players many times per second. Because the server decides what happens, everyone sees the same fight and cheating is much harder. Your browser predicts your own movement so controls feel instant even with some lag.
Free to play, fair to play
Everything that affects a fight is free and the same for everyone. Every player can pick any weapon and any movement tool. You can earn Ribbit Coins, the in-game currency, by playing, and spend them on cosmetic items such as outfits, capes and weapon paints. Cosmetics only change how your frog looks. They never add damage, health or speed.
You can play as a guest with a random knight name, or create a free account to pick your own name, keep your level and stats, and save the items you unlock.
